Vince Gilligan Reveals He Knows How Pluribus Might Finish... For Now.

The creative mastermind did not foresee that Pluribus would become a cultural phenomenon. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

Now that Season 1 of the popular program wrapping up—and a second season officially in the works—the creative team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Incredible Fan Response

Anyone might to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and fan theories about Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to ignore the noise.

“The experience is akin to force fed your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's on purpose. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. It's quite the opposite. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We don't try to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not changed by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.

A Pressing Query: Has the creator See the Conclusion of Pluribus?

So if Gilligan and his team aren’t being guided by fan response, can we assume they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… in a way.

“We have some interesting ideas about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to throw out a solid concept for a superior concept. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if they hit a wall, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.

“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Alternatively, why mess with the iconic TV endings?

“I'd love for Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
