The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. During a period often marked by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Network Praise

The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and supported its peculiarly charming appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about observing this charming family go about their everyday routines.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to help comedy break out of its current cynical streak. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.

“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

The Path Forward

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to enjoy the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
