The English squad will embark on their 2028 European Championship journey at the Manchester City’s stadium, assuming they secure the anticipated passage for a championship taking place in most of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

The Etihad Stadium has not welcomed an Three Lions fixture since May 2016, when the Turkish team were overcome 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is expected to host the England side for their first match on June 10, 2028.

The team are scheduled to play their final two group matches at Wembley, but, in the event of winning Group B, their last-16 tie would take place at the Newcastle stadium. Finishing second would mean commencing the playoffs at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Competition Opening and Rally

The event was inaugurated at an event in central London on the previous evening. High-ranking officials from the tournament organizers and the host football associations were heckled as they entered the site by about 50 activists, who called for the Israeli team to be kicked out from international football because of the situation in Gaza.

Placards were raised with phrases stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Schedule

The opening game of Euro 2028 will be held at the the national stadium of Wales in Cardiff, on a Friday in June 2028, a fixture that will include Wales if they make it.

Wembley Stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the title decider, which will be held on Sunday 9 July with a commencement at 5:00 PM.

It is hoped that an afternoon start, which will also be adopted for Champions League finals from the following campaign, will appeal to households and help reach a wider spectrum of viewers.

Participating Countries

The Republic of Ireland are due to play their initial fixture at the Dublin Arena and Scotland would do the same at Hampden Park.

The national sides of all four hosts will participate in the qualifying tournament; two automatic spots will be reserved for any that do not reach Euro 2028 through the qualification path.

Venues and Elimination Phase

Villa Park and The North London arena round out the nine tournament locations. Every stadium will hold at least one knockout match, with the quarterfinal matches held at each country’s national stadium.

The qualification draw will be staged in the Northern Irish capital, which was removed as a host city last year when it became clear the Belfast stadium could not be upgraded in time, on a date in late 2026.
