The veteran athlete, who recently made history by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, finished third in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup top-three result. Impressive Performance in the French Alps Returning to the French Alps resort for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn crossed the line in a time of 1:20.60. She was just over a third of a second behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing second place. "I didn't quite have the right line on the initial jump," Vonn remarked. "From that point on, I skied well. I'm happy with my skiing today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was overly cautious." This performance was her second podium at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also taken third in the downhill on Saturday. A Remarkable Comeback from Injury Vonn officially retired in early 2019 because of ongoing knee problems. However, she returned to racing in December 2024 following a partial knee replacement. With just over six weeks remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from 6-22 February, Vonn's performances are highly promising. She boasts an Olympic gold and two Olympic bronze medals in her collection and is firmly on track to represent the United States at the next Olympics. "When we get to Cortina, I will be in a good place," the athlete confirmed. Aiming for Further Glory In addition to her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four overall crystal globes she has accumulated over a professional journey spanning 20 years. She presently enjoys a 69-point lead at the summit of the downhill World Cup rankings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table. This season's World Cup campaign includes a total of nine races scheduled before the circuit finale in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
