🔗 Share this article New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Shooting Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the player will be OK after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday. Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during a recent discussion. “That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His family, they are doing well and he will walk away from this just fine.” The coach did not know when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where his condition is described as in critical but steady condition. “Still unsure,” Glenn remarked. “Yet I must mention, hearing him speak, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and his words reflect that optimism.” NYPD issued surveillance images Monday of a man sought in the incident involving Boyd. What prompted the attack is still being looked into and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was singled out. No other injuries as confirmed by officials. The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday about halfway between the famous arena and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to a medical center after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, according to authorities. The shooter fled the scene. Glenn mentioned Boyd has occupied his thinking “a great deal” since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a newborn. “What immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,” Glenn remarked. “I thought of his spouse, I’m thinking about his kid and I hope he recovers fully. That was my main concern. “A certain process is underway, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.” Boyd hasn’t played in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after his season was cut short due to injury on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that required surgery. He signed with New York as a free agent in spring and was expected to be a significant contributor of an improved special teams group under the coach and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a practice session on early August and was carted from the field. Boyd continued to be present during the entire campaign while working his way back. “He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn said. “Certainly, he is a regular at our matches. He’s fully engaged. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.” Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, played his first four seasons with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in 2019. He signed with Arizona in 2023 and later was with the Texans subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with the Jets in March.
