Monarch to Deliver First-Hand Message on His Health Battle in Nationwide Address

King Charles has filmed a first-hand account regarding his journey with cancer, scheduled for transmission as part of this year's Stand Up To Cancer drive, run by a leading cancer charity and a major network.

Buckingham Palace confirmed the King would discuss his "healing process" as a person living with the disease, in a recorded address on this Friday at the evening slot.

The message, taped inside a royal residence a fortnight ago, will stress the critical nature of preventative health checks to help guarantee more people diagnose the condition at an initial point.

This will be a infrequent public commentary on the wellbeing of the Monarch, who has been undergoing regular treatment since his condition was announced in early last year. Analysts suggest unlikely the King will disclose his particular diagnosis.

Fundraising Primary Goal

The annual charity campaign each year generates donations for medical research and treatment and encourages people to get check-ups to improve the probability of an timely detection.

The King's candid approach about his illness, and living with cancer, has been designed to increase understanding and to encourage more people to get tested - and this will be escalated with this unique royal involvement.

To date the King's main approach to his cancer has been to keep working, upholding a hectic timetable in spite of his regular rounds of care, and he is understood not to have sought to be defined by his condition.

Recently has seen the King, 77, undertaking several foreign visits, including to Italy and Canada, and hosting the biggest number of official guests to the UK for a generation, including the German president recently.

Charity Broadcast Event

This Friday's awareness programme on Channel 4, presented by celebrities including several TV personalities, will urge people not to be frightened of getting preventative tests.

The hosts have been affected by cancer - McCall disclosed last month she had received treatment for the disease, while another presenter was overcame thyroid cancer over a decade ago. Comedian Adam Hills has previously mentioned his late father, who had stomach cancer and then later leukaemia.

The programme will appeal to the roughly 9m people in the UK who Cancer Research UK state are not up to date with national health programmes, with an online checker to let people see if they are qualified for tests for several common cancers.

In an effort to demystify cancer checks and demonstrate the benefit of early diagnosis there will be a real-time transmission from treatment centres at two Cambridge hospitals in Cambridge.

"My aim is to take the fear out of cancer screening and show everyone that they are not on their own in this," commented Davina McCall.

Understanding National Services

At present in the UK, there are a number of NHS cancer screening programmes - for bowel, breast and cervical cancer - accessible for specific demographics.

A new lung cancer screening programme is also being gradually implemented for anyone at potential risk of contracting the illness, primarily aimed at people of a certain age, who are smokers or were former smokers.

Men may request prostate cancer checks, but there is lacking a standardised service operational.

Funding Research

The charity project, which has raised £113m over the past decade, is financing 73 research studies encompassing thousands of patients.

His Majesty, in a statement for guests at a reception for related organisations in earlier this year, had spoken of recognising the "intimidating and at times alarming experience" for cancer sufferers and their families.

But he stated his first-hand encounter of living with cancer had shown him that "periods of great challenge of sickness can be alleviated by the kindness of others," as he thanked those who looked after those receiving treatment.

The Palace has not revealed what kind of cancer the King has, or the therapies he has been given. The King's cancer was identified subsequent to he had received a prostate procedure.
