Manchester United Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
