"Any idea when you're interviewing the band?" a text reads. "I was hoping to ask if I can become their newest bandmate."

There is only a single issue: The sender also longs to be Haim's additional sibling. What's more, we are not alone. Multiple celebrated supporters have also coveted the role.

The evidence suggests an irresistible appeal is happening. The siblings Este, Danielle and Alana launched their career performing shows at neighborhood delis with their family. Now they're multiple Grammy contenders.

In the tradition of the most iconic ensembles, they're a tight-knit trio. Their visuals repeatedly depict them marching in sync down the roads of Los Angeles. During performances, they play with such boundless joy you can't help but think, "I want to be a piece of that, too."

"The amount of times on tour that young girls came up to us and said, 'Seeing you perform, I got a guitar'," remarks Alana, the youngest of the Haim siblings. "It is the biggest honor. That is recognition in itself. We've done our job if we can inspire young girls to start a band."

"So anyone are welcome to be the fourth Haim sister."

Historic Nod

The group are connecting from home, where they're recovering after an extensive tour in for their fourth album, I Quit.

They're currently celebrating the news it's been shortlisted for best rock album at the Grammy Awards – with Haim the pioneering all-woman band ever in consideration for the award.

"I tune into the nominations every year, so it almost feels like an out-of-body experience when your name is called," explains Alana. "I needed to phone my sisters to say, 'Did I hear this right or am I dreaming'?"

The weight of the honor resonates with the sisters.

"We really set out to make a rock record this time, so it's a huge achievement," adds Alana. "But we're just thankful for the female artists that came before us."

Personal Turmoil and Humour

The album came out of a time of emotional upheaval. All three sisters were single, and the music captures that strange transitional period where you're happy to be free, but not entirely ready to let go.

The themes follow endings and farewells. The sisters seek love, but not the specific love they've experienced. You can hear them determining in the moment who they are becoming.

"I love way of putting it, yes," says Danielle. "I Quit is kind of like a slogan. You have to make an effort in shutting out the noise and saying, 'I couldn't care less what people think'."

Development of Sound

That developed toughness demanded a different sonic direction – more organic and immediate than anything the band had done before.

For Danielle, who co-produced the album, that started with the percussion.

"The drum sound is such a detailed thing, and I focus so intensely about it," she emphasizes.

"'Journey of the drum sound' will be the name of our memoir," jokes Alana. "I've said it, our albums cannot begin until we find the perfect drum sound."

Anecdotes and Shared Laughter

The band's openness fueled the album's promotional campaign, where the sisters disclosed some of their romantic tales.

A former partner left Este over a medical concern. Alana shared a story of travelling to celebrate New Year's Eve with someone, only to receive a casual gesture at midnight.

"When you're going through these heartbreaks, you just feel like there's no hope," says Alana. "Therefore to be able to share those stories and hear others tell you even crazier stories, it's therapeutic."

A Confident Path

One can easily sense a shift in the band. Now, Haim are more certain of their position in the rock pantheon.

They're major draws, with successful albums and an global following.

However Haim will forever be their number one priority.

"My sisters and I have been making music since I was little," says Alana. "It's like no other path that we were supposed to do. And I'm really thankful we've made it and we're still going strong."
