Antony Price, the groundbreaking UK-based designer responsible for some of the most iconic looks associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, such as the pastel suits that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."

His passing follows just weeks after he debuted his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he began designing menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show opened with creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in shaping form-fitting garments established him as a "genuine original," according to the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he started creating pieces for Camilla, now Queen Consort, such as various looks for her American tour after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in partnership with the label 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: A hallmark of his work.
  • Dramatic Impact: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The industry mourns the loss to a genuine innovator whose impact on the visual landscape of music remains profoundly felt.
