Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then located many other vandalized cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report early analysis suggest the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; officials are presently not informed of any harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to unravel the case" and have requested to the community for tips.
An important official commented the incident made him speechless and required to be addressed promptly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on online, mentioning the death of nine people by a gunman aiming at people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
